Working in Vancouver
WestPeak Electric is based in Ridgefield, north of Vancouver on I-5. We take on residential and commercial electrical work across the city: service calls, panel replacements, lighting, remodel wiring, and tenant improvements.
One thing sets Vancouver apart from the rest of Clark County. Inside city limits, the City of Vancouver issues electrical permits and does its own inspections. A Vancouver mailing address doesn’t settle it, though. Hazel Dell, Salmon Creek, Felida, Orchards, and other neighborhoods north and east of the city are unincorporated, so their permits go through Washington L&I. We check the address and pull the right one.

Permits and inspections
Inside Vancouver city limits, the City of Vancouver issues the electrical permit and inspects the work. Outside the limits, including Hazel Dell, Salmon Creek, and Orchards, it’s Washington L&I.
Your utility
Clark Public Utilities serves all of Vancouver. For panel and service work it disconnects and reconnects the power, and it asks for the permit number and two business days’ notice.
Getting to you
Ridgefield is a short run up I-5 from Vancouver, so the city’s north side is close to our base and the rest is an easy drive.
Homes and buildings
What Vancouver homes tend to need
Vancouver’s housing spans more than a century. The neighborhoods near downtown, such as Hough, Arnada, and Carter Park, have homes from the early 1900s. Houses of that age were built with few circuits and ungrounded outlets, and many have been rewired in stages since. In a house like that, the job is working out what’s original, what’s been added, and what the panel can safely carry.
Homes from the 1950s through the 1980s are the ones most likely to have a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel, or a 100-amp service that is now feeding a heat pump and a hot tub as well.
East Vancouver’s newer subdivisions, around Cascade Park and Fisher’s Landing, mostly have modern 200-amp services. In a newer home the electrical work is mostly additions: better lighting, a circuit for new equipment, a generator hookup.

Questions
Electrical work in Vancouver: common questions
Do I need a City of Vancouver permit or an L&I permit?
It depends on whether the address is inside city limits. Inside, the City of Vancouver issues electrical permits and inspects the work. Outside, including unincorporated areas with a Vancouver mailing address such as Hazel Dell, Salmon Creek, Felida, and Orchards, permits come from Washington L&I. We confirm which applies and pull the permit.
Who shuts off the power for electrical work in Vancouver?
For panel and service work, Clark Public Utilities disconnects and reconnects the service. It needs the electrical permit number and two business days’ notice. When we do the work, we schedule it.
Do you work in Hazel Dell, Salmon Creek, and Felida?
Yes. Those neighborhoods sit between our base in Ridgefield and central Vancouver, and they have a page of their own on this site. Minnehaha, Walnut Grove, Five Corners, and Orchards are in our service area too.
Do you do commercial electrical work in Vancouver?
Yes. Tenant improvements, lighting, equipment power, and service calls for businesses and property managers.
