Electrician in Hazel Dell and Salmon Creek, WA

Hazel Dell and Salmon Creek sit north of Vancouver’s city limits, between the city and our base in Ridgefield. The mailing address says Vancouver, but these neighborhoods are outside the city, and that changes who issues the permit.

Hazel Dell and Salmon Creek at a glance

  • Permits: Washington L&I, not the City of Vancouver
  • Utility: Clark Public Utilities
  • Our base: Ridgefield, a few exits north on I-5
  • Hours: Mon–Fri, 7 AM–5 PM
  • License: WA WESTPEL745M7

A Vancouver address, outside the city

Hazel Dell, Salmon Creek, Felida, Lake Shore, and Mount Vista are unincorporated. They have Vancouver mailing addresses, but they are not part of the City of Vancouver. Together they had about 71,500 residents in the 2020 Census, more than any city in Clark County except Vancouver itself.

For electrical work, the difference shows up at permit time. The City of Vancouver issues electrical permits only inside its limits. Out here the electrical permit and the inspection come from Washington L&I, and any building permit comes from Clark County. We confirm the jurisdiction from the street address before we apply, so the permit goes to the right office the first time.

These neighborhoods are also the part of the Vancouver area closest to us. Salmon Creek is where I-5 and I-205 meet, a few exits south of Ridgefield, and Hazel Dell comes right after it.

Permits, inspections, and power in Hazel Dell and Salmon Creek

Permits and inspections

Washington L&I issues the electrical permit and inspects the work in Hazel Dell, Salmon Creek, Felida, Lake Shore, and Mount Vista. Clark County does not issue electrical permits, and the City of Vancouver’s program stops at the city line.

Your utility

Clark Public Utilities serves these neighborhoods. For a panel or service change it disconnects and reconnects the power once it has the permit number and two business days’ notice. We make that call.

Getting to you

Salmon Creek and Mount Vista are a short drive down I-5 from Ridgefield. Hazel Dell, Felida, and Lake Shore are a little further south and west.

Homes and buildings

What we check before quoting work here

Homes in these neighborhoods were built across many decades, and two houses on the same street can have very different wiring. So we don’t price from the zip code. We look at the panel, the service size, and what is already connected to it.

In an older house, the questions are usually about capacity and condition: whether the panel is one of the brands with a poor safety record, whether the outlets are grounded, and whether there is room for the heat pump, range, or hot tub you want to add.

In a newer house, the service is usually large enough and the work is an addition: more light in the main rooms, a circuit for new equipment, or an inlet for a portable generator.

From a customer

Questions

Electrical work in Hazel Dell and Salmon Creek: common questions

Is Hazel Dell part of the City of Vancouver?

No. Hazel Dell is an unincorporated part of Clark County with Vancouver mailing addresses. The same is true of Salmon Creek, Felida, Lake Shore, and Mount Vista. Electrical permits there come from Washington L&I, not from the City of Vancouver.

Who issues electrical permits in Salmon Creek?

Washington L&I. Clark County handles building permits for unincorporated areas but does not issue electrical permits, so the electrical permit and the inspection are both the state’s. As the contractor, we buy the permit and request the inspection.

How do I know whether my address is inside Vancouver city limits?

The mailing address won’t tell you, because many addresses outside the city say Vancouver. Give us the street address when you call. We check the jurisdiction before applying for a permit.

Do you work in Felida, Lake Shore, and Mount Vista?

Yes. All three are in our service area, along with Hazel Dell and Salmon Creek.
